Use the SMTP relay when your app, framework, or hosting platform can send mail only over SMTP. The relay accepts standard SMTP and sends each message through the SendFlit API, so domain verification, suppressions, quotas, rate limits, and key scopes apply exactly as they do to API sends.

Connection settings

Use an API key with the sending scope for SMTP. Keys with the read scope can’t send.
The relay refuses repeated failed logins from one address for a while. Check the password if you see authentication errors.

Example: Python

How delivery works

  • Each recipient in To, Cc, and Bcc gets their own copy, sent through POST /v1/emails/batch.
  • The relay sets an idempotency key from each message, so a client that retries after a timeout doesn’t send duplicates.
  • Temporary problems, such as a rate limit or an outage, return a 4xx SMTP reply, so your client retries later.
  • Permanent problems, such as an unverified domain or a suppressed recipient, return a 5xx reply and aren’t retried.
Verify your sending domain before you use the relay. See the Quickstart.
